Entertaiment is any activity that holds the attention of its audience or gives pleasure and delight. It is an activity that has developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping an audience engaged. Entertainment is often focused on themes that the human brain was evolved to react deeply to such as social backstabbing and murders. Entertainment also stimulates the brain to release seratonin, dopamine and other feel good chemicals. Oliver and Barstsch (2010) define entertaiment as an activity that is understood objectively, involves communication between text and audience from external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience to exist and occurs in a passive form.
