Daily news is a daily newspaper with national and local coverage of breaking stories, politics, celebrities, sports, gossip, and more. Founded in 1919, the New York Daily News was one of the first successful tabloid newspapers in the United States and attracted readers with sensational coverage of crime and scandal, lurid photographs and cartoons, and entertainment news. In the 1930s, it became known as “New York’s Picture Newspaper.” In 1948, the newspaper created WPIX (Channel 11 in New York City), whose call letters were derived from its nickname; and later bought what is now the FM simulcast of its AM namesake, WFAN-FM. Both of these stations continue to operate out of the former Daily News building in New York City.

In recent years, the paper has struggled financially and is facing competition from a number of online publications. As a result, its circulation has continued to decline, falling to just over 100,000 in 2016. In 2017, the Daily News was sold to Tronc, a Chicago-based media company.

The paper is a leader in the field of local and community journalism, and is a major source for information about public affairs in New York City. Its award-winning writers, columnists and opinion formers bring readers news from the world’s greatest city and beyond. Its staff is devoted to reporting on the issues that affect all New Yorkers, including politics, city government, and education. It is also renowned for its coverage of New York City sports, particularly the Yankees, Mets, and Giants.

As part of its mission to inform and engage, the News has been at the forefront of social justice and diversity issues. The newspaper has a long history of supporting and publishing work by women, minorities, and the LGBT community. The News also works to promote civic engagement through education and training initiatives, and serves as a resource for the public by offering free access to its archives.

In addition to its print and online editions, the News publishes a weekly supplement called WKND, as well as several special issues each year. These include the Yale Daily News Magazine, the Commencement Issue, and the Yale-Harvard Game Day Issue.

The Daily News is also well known for its extensive sports coverage and is the foremost source of New York Yankees, Mets, and Giants news. It is also one of the country’s leading sources of information about the arts and culture, publishing articles on a wide range of topics including visual arts, music, dance, theater, and literature.
