This Local Law amends the New York City Charter and Administrative Code to change the name of the Department of Consumer Affairs to the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, designates the Office of Labor Standards and the Division of Paid Care as offices within the Department, and updates references to these offices and other agency nomenclature. The bill also clarifies the Department’s powers to seek restitution on behalf of consumers and workers for violations of laws under the Department’s jurisdiction and provides for procedures by which the Department may reverse, modify or remand OATH trial decisions.

A Local Law to establish protections for displaced hotel service workers in the event of a sale or bankruptcy of a hotel and to authorize hotels that sell or otherwise dispose of their business to pay severance payments to such employees. Read Local Law 98 of 2020.

This Local Law requires City agencies to disclose to persons whose personal information is disclosed in a data breach that the agency has discovered that such personal information has been accessed, acquired or used by an unauthorized person or entity. The Local Law also expands the scope of information that must be reported to the Chief Privacy Officer, the Office of Cyber Command, and affected individuals.

A Local Law that requires certain businesses to notify customers of their policies regarding the sale or transfer of biometric identifiers and prohibits the collection, storage, or transmission of such information.

This Local Law extends the current prohibition on third-party food delivery services charging food service establishments for telephone orders that did not result in a transaction during the call to February 17, 2022. This Local Law also establishes a procedure for DCWP to deny, suspend or revoke the license of any such service that commits two or more such violations.
