The practice of law is an industry that’s always changing. New challenges and client needs are constantly emerging, and legal firms must adjust quickly to stay competitive. But one of the most important areas for change is in how lawyers approach the idea of “law new.” New law isn’t an easy concept to pin down, but it generally involves finding ways to benefit clients through a non-traditional means. This might include leveraging technology, offering alternative fee structures or creating strategies that aren’t usually found in traditional law firm practices.
Illinois New Laws 2023
There are a number of new laws taking effect in the state of Illinois on January 1 ranging from issues that affect public safety to workers’ rights. Several new bills are set to take effect that address topics such as workplace safety, gun rights and hairstyles.
For instance, HB 4271 would require private insurance to cover medically necessary hormone therapy for women who underwent hysterectomy and therefore experienced induced menopause. It would also allow senior citizens to receive a discount on their vehicle registration fees if they purchased the vehicle in the state.
Moreover, Local Law 13 of 2022 requires City agencies to provide employees and job applicants with a notice on the availability of federal and state student loan forgiveness programs. It would also amend the City’s data breach notification laws to make them consistent with requirements in New York State law. Finally, Local Law 16 of 2022 adds an exception to the item pricing requirement for retail stores with scanners available for consumer use and allows them to sell food products at a price that doesn’t reflect their actual cost of production.
